Removing Old Liners
A cylinder liner puller grips the liner from the bottom and pulls it out evenly. Improvised methods - hammers, pry bars - often score the block bore. For stuck liners, a hydraulic puller with the correct adapter plate is the safe answer.
Installing New Liners
Freeze or chill liners before installation where the manual allows, lubricate the O-rings with the correct compound, and press the liner home with an installation tool that applies even clamping force. Never drive a liner with a hammer.
Checking Your Work
After installation, measure liner protrusion at four points with a dial gauge and compare to spec before bolting the head down.
